Captain India Rohit Sharma was upset when New Zealand outplayed them on all fronts on the opening day of the 1st Test in Bangalore. After India decided to bat, India’s total dropped to a record low of 46. Matt Henry And William O’Rourke took five and four wickets respectively. To make matters worse, India were a bit sloppy on the field as the New Zealand batters responded by making quick runs. The new Indian bowlers failed to achieve much, but when the chance did come, the fielders failed to capitalize.

In the 13th over, the New Zealand captain Tom Latham got an internal advantage after Mohammed Siraj got one to bounce off of him.

The ball hit the outside edge and flew between the first and second slips. Virat Kohli stood on the first slip and Rahul on the second.

Unfortunately, neither Kohli nor Rahul made any attempt to intercept the ball. However, replays showed that it was Rahul’s catch.

Rahul was lost in thought as the ball flew past him and hit the boundary rope. This made Rohit very emotional.

To express his disappointment, Rohit threw up his hands in disbelief while bowler Siraj also looked upset.

Fast bowlers Matt Henry and William O’Rourke combined to bowl out India in 31.2 overs in the second session after the hosts opted to bat in cloudy conditions. The opening day of the test was a failure.

This was the third lowest Test score in India’s history. Their previous lowest score at home was 75 against the West Indies in New Delhi in 1987.

Their lowest total is 36 against Australia in the pink-ball Test at Adelaide in 2020. They fell for 42 against England at Lord’s in 1974.

Henry ended the innings with a five-wicket haul and his last knock against Kuldeep was his 100th Test wicket.
