Left-arm spin bowler Yash Dayal was added to India’s reserve list after Khalil Ahmed had to be sent home due to an unspecified fault. Dayal, who was added to the Test squad during the Bangladesh series, was in South Africa for the T20I series but did not play a single match. He flew straight to Perth from Johannesburg after Khalil fell ill and was unable to score in the nets. The medical team advised Rajasthan to rest his left arm and so it was decided that Dayal would fly in and Khalil would fly home.
“It was a substitution of sorts because the Indian team needed to do a simulation for Mitchell Starc. Dayal was originally scheduled to play in the A Test but was sent to South Africa. If Khalil can’t bowl, there was no point in keeping him.” back,” a BCCI source familiar with the development told PTI on Wednesday.
It is unclear whether Khalil will be able to play the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 matches ahead of the auction as he has been released by Delhi Capitals and would like to be part of the bidding war between the franchises during the upcoming mega auctions.
Dayal remained with Royal Challengers Bangalore.
On Tuesday, Yashasvi Jaiswal felt a jolt in his shoulder while playing and required medical attention.
However, much to the relief of the team, Jaiswal returned to the net on Wednesday.
