bowling coach Morne Morkel Branded A-Lister jasprit bumrah He played as a “natural leader” before captaining India to lift the toss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series opener against Australia in Perth. and Rohit Sharma Bumrah, who will miss the first Test of the much-awaited series, will assume the role of captain. The 30-year-old was appointed as Bumrah’s deputy at the team’s announcement. When reports started that Rohit would miss the opening Test, Bumrah emerged as the ideal candidate to fill the role. This will be Bumrah’s second time leading the team after the match against England in 2022.

With Bumrah leading the pace attack and the team, Morkel believes the star pacer can excel in both roles.

“Jassi (Jasprit Bumrah) is a guy who would put his hand up right away and wanted that leadership role. He’s had great success here in the past. He knows what to expect. Dressing room He speaks well. And he’s a great guy. I know he’ll lead from the front when he gets the ball and the rest of the young players will follow,” Morkel said ahead of Friday’s opening Test. He spoke at a press conference.

The hype surrounding BGT has become unrealistic. India suffered a crushing defeat in a home Test series for the first time in 24 years, while Australia suffered an ODI defeat against Pakistan, adding further spice to the heated rivalry.

Considering India’s sub-par record in Test cricket in Perth, the expectations are mounting on Bumrah’s shoulders.

Despite everything happening in the backdrop of the series opener, Morkel feels the team will be at peace once everything settles down.

“For him, this is an exciting challenge. But we have to be right. We have a lot of experienced players who will help him. And when he is bowling and in the world “I’m sure there’s a million things going on that will calm his head down and bring some calm to the team,” he said.

“But in terms of leadership and how he sees the game and produces the game, he’s a natural leader for me through training. I’m looking forward to seeing how we go about our business here. ” he added.
