After the IPL 2025 auction, there has been a lot of talk about the captaincy situation of Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR won IPL 2024 title under Shreyas Iyercaptaincy, but the franchise has decided to release the Indian batter ahead of the new season. As a result of the auction for the position of captain of the KKR, two main contenders emerged – Venkatesh Iyer And Ajinkya Rahane. While Rahane is an experienced candidate, the price tag of Rs 23.75 crore makes Venkatesh the top contender for the position. After the auction, KKR CEO Venky Mysore spoke about the situation and gave a clear answer regarding the captain’s mystery.
“Well, you know that. Frankly, we need to sit down and take stock. Sometimes it happens that after you’ve done it all, you just need to sit down, reflect, look at it all. There are interested parties, and parts of the think tank will not be here. So we will all sit down and discuss this properly and I am confident that the right decision will be taken,” Mysore told TV stations.
Meanwhile, Venkatesh Iyer on Sunday said that he would be “more than happy” to accept the captaincy call and take Shreyas Iyer’s place.
In a bold and unexpected move, the Shah Rukh Khan-owned team has decided not to leave its 2024 IPL winning captain Shreyas Iyer in the mega auction here and has launched an all-out war against Royal Challengers Bengaluru to get Venkatesh.
“I had the opportunity to become a team captain in Nitish RanaHis absence when he unfortunately got injured and I was still vice-captain,” Venkatesh said after KKR bought him for a huge amount.
“I have always believed that captaincy is just a label, but leadership is about creating an environment where everyone feels they can play for that team and contribute. If I am given responsibility, I would be more than happy to take it on. Absolutely (I’m ready for this).
“Together we will strive to defend the championship and continue our winning campaign. Thank you very much for choosing me to be on your team,” he added.
