Madrid and Sevilla players together provided a guard of honor for the retiring Spanish great – 2010 World Cup winner and two-time European champion – at the start of the game.

Navas, 39, won four Europa Leagues and two Copa del Rey trophies with Sevilla, but his latest spell ended in disappointment for the Andalusians, who lost in the Spanish capital.

Fernandez saved Rodrigo’s shot after Mbappe rounded the goalkeeper and passed the ball back to his Brazilian strike partner as Madrid looked for a fifth.

Lukebakio made a late return for Sevilla as Madrid completed an impressive year in which they were crowned Spanish and European champions with a good result.
