Sunny Dhillon was found to have violated the Emirates Cricket Board’s (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code on Tuesday and was banned from cricket for six years, according to the International Cricket Council (ICC). “The former assistant coach of the Abu Dhabi T10 Cricket League franchise team has been banned from all forms of cricket,” the ICC said in a statement. Dillon, a former assistant coach of the franchise team, was one of eight people charged last year with violating the Anti-Corruption Code. The charges relate to the 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 Cricket League and alleged attempts to influence the outcome of matches during the tournament.

These efforts were thwarted by the ICC and the Designated Anti-Corruption Officer (DACO) under the ECB Code for the tournament.

After a full hearing and the presentation of written and oral arguments, the Tribunal found Dillon guilty of the following charges: Article 2.1.1 – Engaging in an attempt to correct, fabricate or influence irregular matches or aspects of matches in the Abu Dhabi T10 2021.

Article 2.4.4. Failure to fully disclose to DACO any approaches or invitations received to engage in corrupt conduct in accordance with the Code.

Article 2.4.6. Failure or refusal without reasonable cause to cooperate with any investigation conducted by DACO regarding possible corrupt conduct under the Code.

The ban was backdated to September 13, 2023, the date of Dillon’s suspension.

In the 2024 Abu Dhabi T10, Deccan Gladiators unleashed a barrage of fireworks as they reached the 105-run target with eight wickets in hand and over three overs to spare against Morrisville Samp Army at the Zayed Cricket Stadium.

Jos Buttler has been named the 2024 Player of the Tournament.
