‘A huge loss for Karnataka’: Anil Kumble condoles the demise of S.M. Krishna

Former cricketer Anil Kumble on Tuesday expressed his condolences on the demise of former Karnataka Chief Minister S.M. Krishna and said it was a huge loss for the state. Krishna passed away early Tuesday morning at his Sadashvinagar residence at the age of 92. Speaking to reporters, Kumble said the contribution of S.M. Krishna’s development of the state as Chief Minister goes beyond his tenure. “His demise is a huge loss for Karnataka… As the CM, his contribution to the development of the state goes beyond his tenure. Krishna suffered from a long illness and was hospitalized in early August.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, a long-time friend of Krishna, said the funeral will be held on Wednesday at Somanahalli in Mandya district, which is Krishna’s hometown.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah expressed shock over the death and said Karnataka will remain indebted to Krishna’s contribution to the development of IT-BT.

In a post on X, Siddaramiah wrote, “I am shocked by the death of former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna. Krishna’s service as State and Union Minister and Chief Minister is unparalleled. Karnataka will always be indebted to him for his contribution to the development of the IT-BT sector, especially as the Chief Minister.”

Siddaramiah further wrote that Krishna was Ajatsatru’s enemy as well as his mentor in the early days of the Congress.

“Krishna, who was a secretive politician, was the enemy of Ajatasatru. Krishna, who was my mentor in the early days of joining the Congress party, has always been my well-wisher. a role model for aspiring politicians. I also share the grief of his family and fans who are saddened by his passing. I pray to God that his soul may rest in peace,” he wrote. read.

Krishna, 92, was the chief minister of Karnataka from October 11, 1999 to May 28, 2004, and also served as foreign minister in Manmohan Singh’s United Progressive Alliance government from 2009 to 2012 and was the governor of Maharashtra.

He joined the BJP in March 2017, ending his nearly 50-year association with the Congress. Last year he retired from active politics.
