Former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade has revealed that his team’s defeat to India in the T20 World Cup earlier this year was probably the moment that ended his career as it was the first time the thought of retiring crossed his mind. India, led by captain Rohit Sharma’s superb 41 (92), defeated the Australians by 24 runs in the Group 1 Super Eight decider in St. Lucia to secure a berth in the semi-finals and ultimately clinch the title.

“It (the thought of retiring) probably crossed my mind after we lost to India. That’s when I really sat down and thought that this was probably the end of my career. It was an emotional moment,” Wade, who announced his retirement from International cricket on Tuesday, told cricket.com.au Wade, who usually batted in the order in T20 Internationals, said the arrival of Josh Inglis as a wicket-keeper who could bat the top of the order also influenced his decision.

“It’s time for Ingo (Josh Inglis) to come. You can see what he’s done over the last few months (several months) that he’s been on the team as the No. 1 goalie. He was definitely ready to come.” and accept this role.

“They may be looking for someone who can now hit more from the top to mid-order and that suits him very well.” The Tasmanian also said he is unlikely to take part in the upcoming IPL mega auction as it will be difficult for him to remain available throughout the event.

Wade has played for Gujarat Titans for the last two seasons.

“I’m riding ILT20, which will be right after BBL. I’m driving on the (Abu Dhabi) T10, which leads straight to the BBL.

“So I’m going to Dubai at the end of this month. I have a few Tassie (Tasmania) day players that I play in as well. I won’t be in the IPL,” Wade said. , who will be Australia’s wicket-keeping and fielding coach during the white-ball series against Pakistan.
