‘Always be attached to this team’: note from ex-CSK star’s wife after IPL auction drama



The IPL 2025 mega auction turned out to be an exciting event with a total of 577 players going under the hammer. At the two-day event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, 182 players were sold for a whopping cumulative amount of Rs 639.15 crore. All ten franchises have spent days and weeks brainstorming and putting together a promising team for the upcoming IPL season. The mega auction meant that teams had to part with some of their star players and that’s exactly what happened in the chase for Chennai Super Kings, who had to part with the pacer. Deepak Chahar.

The Indian star player joined CSK in 2018 and played 76 matches for them. He has contributed immensely to CSK’s title wins in 2018, 2021 and 2023 with his fiery spells. However, ahead of the 2025 auctions, he was released by the five-time champions and bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 9.25 crore.

During his stint with CSK, Chahar took 76 wickets and troubled the opposition batters with his supreme pace. Apart from this, he even proposed to his wife Jaya Bharadwaj (then girlfriend) in the stands in Dubai during a match against Punjab Kings in 2021.

With Chahar parting ways with CSK, his wife Jaya took to Instagram and shared a heartfelt message for the five-time champions along with a series of photographs.

“From the cheers in the stands to the celebration of love on the field where I said “I do” in front of the whole crowd. My heart will always be attached to this team. Forever grateful for the wonderful memories @chennaiipl,” Jaya wrote in the caption. .
