‘Are you motivated?’: Devdutt Padikkal’s advice from Mayank Agarwal ahead of 1st Test against Australia

Young Indian batsman Devdutt Padikkal will have to accept the hardships that will befall him if he gets a chance in the first Test against Australia starting here on Friday, says senior Karnataka teammate Mayank. -Agarwal feels that way. Padikkal was not initially part of India’s 18-member jumbo squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but he was dropped for an unofficial test in the A team after Shubman Gill hit him on the left hand before the series opener. He was asked to return to the game after going under. If Gill remains sidelined, Padikkal, who made his debut against England in March, will be making his second appearance in this format.

“They (Indian players) had time to prepare. The good thing is that a lot of them went and played in India A matches,” he said during the 2018-19 tour in Melbourne. Agarwal, who was in a similar situation when he was called for the second Test, told PTI on Thursday. .

“They’ve spent at least three weeks preparing for the conditions. But at the end of the day, the question comes down to mindset, whether they’re willing to take the fight. Or are they willing to accept the fight? Is there? If he can get into that mindset, that’s what he has. He has a lot of skill and talent, (and) works hard on his game. ” In fact, Padikkal seemed to be a step closer to the certainty of playing the first Test under his official BCCI handle, sharing a video of his experience. He returned to the national team the day before the match.

“It feels really surreal to be honest. The intensity of practice was pretty high. You feel that challenge. Everyone is ready and working hard for the big series ahead. You will feel that there is,” Padikkal said.

“So, I always look forward to doing training sessions with the Indian team because it feels like it’s as big as the matches.” Padikkal, who scored a brilliant 88 in the first unofficial Test in Mackay, said: ” I’m glad to have this opportunity and hopefully I can make it count.”

Agarwal helped the Indian batsmen overcome their recent struggles in Australia.

“According to them, they are preparing as best they can or should and we have to trust that. They will definitely face difficulties. It is a place where cricket is played seriously,” said Agarwal, who was part of India’s 2-1 win on the 2018-19 tour.

“I want to put myself in that mindset of, ‘I want to be in that tough situation, or I want to be in that situation where the chips are down and I want to find a way and overcome the situation and win.'” It’s a game for the team. ” he said.

Agarwal supported his long-time teammate KL Rahul, who is set to start in place of Rohit Sharma in the opening Test, and praised his batting flexibility.

“The real issue here is that when you play for India, there is always pressure when you represent the national team. “I was asked to act,” he said.

“I believe he’s a player who can adapt to playing anywhere. We’ve seen him do great overseas. He’s very calm and very collector. He just has to go through his routine, play the way he plays and just stay calm,” he said.
