Cricket Australia on Friday imposed a 10-year ban on Sri Lankan Test player Duleep Samaraweera for alleged “inappropriate conduct” – concurrent with the 20-year ban he is already serving. The 52-year-old, who played seven Tests and five ODIs in the 1990s, was appointed head coach of the Victorian women’s team in May. But his tenure was short-lived due to alleged inappropriate behavior towards a female player.
In September, the Australian Cricket Commission banned him from holding any position in Australian cricket for 20 years, but another statement has emerged.
This relates to an alleged incident where Samaraweera was employed by Cricket Victoria but during private training unrelated to that position.
“The Australian Cricket Board has made a decision regarding further allegations of misconduct against Duleep Samaraweera,” the statement said.
“Samaraweera denied the allegations but chose not to participate in the investigation and subsequent Conduct Commission hearings.”
The commission, which did not provide any details of the charges, said the 10-year fine would run concurrently with his 20-year ban.
