After an impressive performance in his first Ranji Trophy match for Bengal, Shami will be assessed in several Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) T20 games. It is also reported that it is very important for Shami to lose weight and get back into shape.

“What needs to be seen is when he can break his dependence on the BCCI medical team who treats him after every spell he bowls,” a BCCI source said, as reported by the publication. Times of India November 22.

“The medical team believes he will begin to lose weight as he continues to play matches, which will help improve his stamina. Since the Ranji Trophy stage is over, the first round of SMAT matches remains a temporary criterion,” the source also said. .

According to the report, BCCI head of sports science Nitin Patel and National Cricket Academy (NCA) coach Nishant Bordoloi are in charge of Shami’s training and recovery during his stint with the Bengal team.

Shami’s SMAT matches began on November 23 when, as per the report, he had 10 days to prove his fitness.

The report also adds that Shami may not be in a rush to return to cricket, keeping in mind the ICC Champions Trophy in February.

“Bowling with two overs in T20 matches in SMAT is not ideal. Maintaining intensity in a high-profile Test series is a different ball game. There is a chance that he will be sent to train with the Indian team if he gets clear. SMAT challenge, but playing him would be a good choice. The selectors are also wary of the Champions Trophy in February,” said a source.

If Shami’s recovery goes fully as planned, he could take part in the third Test, which starts on December 14.

In Shami’s absence, Team India did well in the first Test in Perth. Vice Captain and Forward Pace Jasprit Bumrah took eight wickets, Mohammed Siraj took five, and the debutant Harshit Rana took four as India won by 295 runs.
