Bengal women’s cricket team made history on Monday by achieving the highest success rate in run chases in women’s one-day cricket. They achieved this in the Senior Women’s Trophy 2024 match against Haryana at Niranjan Shah Stadium Ground C in Rajkot. This is a record in List A women’s cricket. Bengal players scored 390 points, surpassing Northern Districts’ record of 309 points against Canterbury in a New Zealand domestic match in 2019. On the international stage, Sri Lanka held the record by scoring 305 runs against South Africa earlier this year. Before Bengal’s win, the highest single-day score in the country was 356/4 by Railways against Chandigarh in 2021.
In this match, Bengal, led by ‘Player of the Match’ Tanusree Sarkar, was the key to Bengal’s success as he scored 113 off 83 balls, including 20 fours. He achieved his goal with five balls left and decided to advance to the semi-finals.

After coming into bat, Haryana posted a formidable total of 389/5, thanks to Shafali Verma’s explosive success of 197 off 115. Verma, who has been ignored in India’s shorter formats, proved his prowess with an innings that featured 22 fours and 11 sixes. It was her second century in the tournament after she scored 139 off 98 balls against Uttar Pradesh.

Verma’s innings was strengthened by a 173-run opening partnership with Reema Sisodia, who contributed to 58 runs. Even after Verma was dismissed in the 39th over, Haryana maintained their momentum with valuable contributions from Triveni Vashistha (46) and Sonia Mendya (61).
Bengal’s reply was swift and decisive, with openers Dara Gujjar and Sasti Mondal completing the team’s 100 runs in just nine overs, laying a strong foundation. Gujjar hit 69 off 49 balls while Mondal added 52 off 29 balls. Sarkar, who bats at number three, played a vital role with the bat as well as the ball, taking 3/56 with his medium pace and dismissing Reema Sisodia, Diya Yadav and Vasistha.
Wicketkeeper Priyanka Bala’s unbeaten 88 off 81 balls and Pratibha Rana’s unbeaten 28 off 26 balls helped Bengal maintain the much-needed run rate and finally lead them to a historic victory. Ta.
