It’s never too early to start preparing for next season, and for PFF, that means looking for ways to improve. PFF Premium Stats.
An exciting option is to introduce more data. And to find out which stats resonate with you the most, we’ll offer some data beyond the premium stats that pique your interest.
This week, we’re introducing a metric called “”.Improved coverage grade,” which adds even more context to PFF’s traditional coverage grades.
What is advanced coverage grade?
Advanced Coverage Grade uses machine learning to map the separation allowed in a game to the expected PFF coverage grade that players would have earned had they been targeted. This system also factors in the difficulty of assignments and situations when making those assessments.
Variables considered for assignments and situations include play position, player assignments in coverage, overall coverage scheme, safety rotation, press coverage, route depth, and play action.
Going old school, it’s a +/- grading system, although 0 doesn’t necessarily represent expected or average results.
