Captain Durga Rao Tompaki on Wednesday said it would be disappointing to miss out on the chance to play in the T20 Blind Cricket World Cup in Pakistan following India’s withdrawal from the tournament, but the country’s federation This development was described as a “regression.” The Indian team withdrew from the tournament after the government denied them permission to travel to Pakistan, citing security concerns. The Indian team was scheduled to cross the Wagah border on Wednesday for the event scheduled to begin on Saturday. “We play with passion and represent our country with immense pride,” Tompaki said in a media release. “We have always looked forward to competing on the biggest stage, but we miss this opportunity. It’s a shame,” he said.
“However, we know that the next World Cup is just around the corner and we will continue to focus on training and preparation.” He conducted a 25-day training camp in New Delhi before being selected.
“We have had a successful coaching camp and have seen new talent that we believe can take the team to even greater heights. We will develop these talents and ensure the team is prepared when the next tournament comes. The time has come to make it possible,” Tompaki added.
The team had initially obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Ministry of Sports to participate in the tournament at no cost to the government. However, permission was not obtained from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
“While this is a significant setback for the team, CABI fully respects the government’s concerns and decisions in response,” CABI said in a statement.
“The team has been training hard and is enthusiastic about the game. However, we remain committed to the government’s guidance and the continued development of blind cricket in India.” “Although the timing of the next World Cup remains uncertain, our commitment to our sport and our country remains steadfast.”
The government has also not granted permission to the Indian national cricket team to travel to Pakistan for next year’s ICC Champions Trophy.
