Former cricketer Kapil Dev believes it is too early to judge whether Jasprit Bumrah is the “best candidate” to replace Rohit Sharma as captain. The Indian team entered Perth’s Optus Stadium with an air of pomp and pomp. Bumrah captained the visiting team as Rohit was absent due to personal reasons. Putting relentless pressure on Australia, India defeated the hosts by a record-shattering 295 runs and went on to win the series 1-0.
As the series moved from Perth to Adelaide, parity was restored after Australia shattered India’s dreams with a 10-wicket win, taking the scoreline to 1-1.
The 31-year-old has now led the Indian team twice. In his first appearance in Birmingham in 2022, he lost to England.
Questions have been raised about Rohit’s future as Indian captain, with some fans backing Bumrah to take over the role once his dynamic opening stint ends.
However, the World Cup-winning captain believes players should be judged based on how they react in difficult situations, not when they are successful.
“I think it’s too early to talk about it. You can’t say with one performance that he’s one of the best and you can’t say with one bad performance that he doesn’t deserve it. Let the player play. “There will be a lot of ups and downs in cricket and it’s up to you how he reacts during difficult times,” Kapil told reporters during an event on Monday.
With the series level at 1-1, India could be under serious pressure in the Brisbane Test as they aim to score a BGT hat-trick in Australia.
While many are speculating how India will react to the defeat in Adelaide, Kapil expressed faith in the Rohit-led team and said, “For sure they will come back.”
