Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody has signed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins, openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, and Heinrich Claassen to the team ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. He was selected as the most likely candidate to remain. Moody, who coached SRH in two different terms from 2013 to 2022, supported the team’s core players remaining after the team finished runners-up in 2024. Head, Abhishek and Klaasen had a memorable season, becoming the team’s top run-getters and playing key roles in reaching the finals.
Head scored 567 runs including a century and 4 fifties while Abhishek smashed 484 runs with the help of three half-centuries. Klaasen scored 479 runs in the season, including four half-centuries.
“If you look at SRH, they have had one of the toughest jobs in the franchise during this stay, they want to have their captain Pat Cummins at the top and then Travis. Head, followed by Abhishek Sharma,” Moody told The Star. Sports.
The Australian also added that all-rounder Nitish Reddy (the team’s fourth-highest run-getter in 2024) and Abdul Samad, who scored 182 runs and a strike rate of 168.51 last season, should also be considered for staying.
“I would extend it further, but it would be expensive, but I think it’s worth keeping a talented player like Heinrich Klaasen, and the recently uncapped Nitish Reddy. But I think they need to secure him before he comes in.” Among the uncapped players, I would definitely consider Abdul Samad, who could be in the midfield and play the game. He is a strong hitter who can change things up. ” he added.
Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises can retain a total of six players from their existing teams. This can be done using the Right to Retain or Match (RTM) option. The six retentions/RTMs can include up to five capped players (Indian and overseas) and up to two uncapped players.
The auction fund for the franchise has been set at Rs 120 crore for IPL 2025. The last day for franchises to finalize their retention list is October 31st.
