On the second day of the rain-hit opening Test here on Thursday, New Zealand hit 180 for three in their first innings to counter India’s 46 all out. India came to terms in just 31.2 overs with five home batsmen unable to even open their accounts in the Test at home, dropping to their lowest ever total. Rishabh Pant scored 20 runs while opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 13 runs. None of the other Indian batsmen reached double figures. New Zealand, in stark contrast, showed solid batting and had a 134-point lead by the end of the day’s play.

The partnership of Devon Conway (91) and Will Young (33) hit 75 after the Kiwis lost Tom Latham (15).

Lachin Ravindra, 22, and Darryl Mitchell, 14, were at the crease when the stumps were drawn that day due to poor light.

Quick score:

India 1st innings: 46 all out in 31.2 overs (Rishabh Pant 20, Matt Henry 5/15)

New Zealand bottom of the first inning: 180/3 in 50 overs (Devon Conway 91, Will Young 33, Ravindra Jadeja 1/28, R Ashwin 1/46, Kuldeep Yadav 1/57).
