There has been a lot of talk surrounding the Indian cricket team’s star fast bowler. Jasprit Bumrahhis fitness ahead of the 2025 Champions Cup. Bumrah suffered from back spasms which prevented him from bowling during the final Test match against Australia in Sydney. During the match, the fast bowler looked at some place where he was being disturbed and was rushed to the hospital for a check-up. According to a message in Hindustan TimesBumrah consulted New Zealand orthopedic surgeon Dr Rowan Schouten regarding the injury. “The surgeon is in touch with the BCCI medical team and the selectors are expected to be informed.”

The report further claims that Bumrah is likely to be included in the 15-member squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy, but he will only play if he is “pain-free upon returning to bowling.”

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif expressed his doubts about Jasprit Bumrah’s success Rohit Sharma as India’s Test captain.

Kaif stressed that naming Bumrah as captain could overload a player, which would affect both his fitness and life expectancy. Instead, he pitched for a batter like KL Rahul or Rishabh Pantto take on the leadership mantle, ensuring stability and continuity.

Speculation around India’s Test captaincy has intensified following Rohit Sharma’s absence from the Sydney Test during the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Reports suggest that Rohit may give up the Test captaincy altogether, opening the door to potential successors. Jasprit Bumrah, who briefly captained India in the Perth and Sydney Tests, has emerged as a candidate for the role, but Kaif is adamant that it would be a mistake.

“BCCI should think twice before appointing Jasprit Bumrah as permanent captain,” Kaif wrote on X.

“He needs to focus solely on taking wickets and staying fit. Additional leadership responsibilities and passions in the heat of the moment can lead to injury and potentially shorten an outstanding career. Don’t kill the golden goose.”
