Mansi Ahlawat won bronze to extend India’s medal streak at the World Championships, but the men’s freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers will return empty-handed. Competing in the 59kg weight category, Mansi, who trains at Sir Chhotu Ram Ahad under coach Mandeep, defeated Canada’s Lawrence Beauregard 5-0 in the bronze medal bout. She lost 1-4 to Mongolian Sukha Tserenchimed in the semi-finals after winning three straight bouts on Wednesday.

Manisha Bhanwala (65kg) also came close to finishing on the podium but lost her bronze in the playoffs 2-8 to Japan’s Miwa Morikawa.

Manisha returned to action after winning the consolation round 7-2 over Enkhjin Tuvshinjargal of Mongolia.

Kirti (55kg) and Bipasha (72kg) failed to make it to the medal round.

In men’s freestyle, Sandeep Mann (92 kg) advanced to the repechage round but lost the bout due to technical superiority to Slovakia’s Btyrbek Tsakuklov.

Udit (61kg), Manish Goswami (70kg) and Parvinder Singh (79kg) failed to make it past the medal round.

Indian Greco-Roman wrestlers competed as usual with Sanjeev (55kg), Chetan (63kg), Ankit Gulia (72kg) and Rohit Dahiya (82kg) dropping out early in the competition.
