Match-fixing in Abu Dhabi T10 league? Franchise assistant coach suspended for six years by ICC

Sunny Dhillon has been found to have breached the Emirates Cricket Board’s (ECB) anti-corruption regulations on Tuesday and has been banned from all cricket for six years, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement. “A former assistant coach of a franchise team in the Abu Dhabi T10 Cricket League has been banned from all forms of cricket,” the ICC said in a statement. Dillon, a former assistant coach with the franchise, was one of eight people charged with anti-corruption laws last year. The charges relate to the 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 Cricket League, where he is suspected of attempting to influence the outcome of matches during the tournament.

These efforts were thwarted by the ICC and the Designated Anti-Corruption Authority (DACO) for the purposes of the ECB’s tournament regulations.

After a full hearing and the submission of written and oral arguments, the court found Dillon guilty of: Article 2.1.1 – Modifying or devising any inappropriate part of the Abu Dhabi T10 2021 match or match; or participating in any attempt to influence.

Article 2.4.4 – Failure to disclose to DACO full details of approaches or invitations received to engage in corrupt practices under the Code.

Article 2.4.6 – Failure or refusal to cooperate with any investigation conducted by DACO regarding potential corrupt practices under this Code, absent compelling legitimate grounds.

This suspension is retroactive to September 13, 2023, when Dillon was provisionally suspended.

In the 2024 edition of Abu Dhabi T10, Deccan Gladiators picked up 8 wickets against Morrisville Samp Army at the Zayed Cricket Stadium and produced fireworks to reach the target of 105 runs with over 3 overs remaining. It was repeated.
