BCCI said in a press release that Shami has fully recovered from the heel issue. However, after playing in Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, he noticed swelling in his left knee. Accordingly, the BCCI said his “knee will need more time to control under the stress of bowling” and that Border, who is currently tied 1-1 after the first three Tests, has He concluded that he will not be selected for the final two Tests of the Gavaskar Trophy.

BCCI said in a statement: “The BCCI medical team at the Center of Excellence has been working closely with Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami during his recovery and rehabilitation following surgery on his right heel. Shami has fully recovered from his heel issue. He has recovered.”

Shami bowled 43 overs in the Ranji Trophy match between Bengal and Madhya Pradesh in November. Following this, he played in all nine matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) and also took part in extra bowling sessions on the sidelines to increase his bowling volume in preparation for the Test matches.

“However, his left knee is showing mild swelling due to the increased stress on the joint due to the load of bowling. The swelling is expected due to increased bowling over a long period of time,” a BCCI release said. .

“Based on the current medical evaluation, the BCCI medical team has determined that more time is needed to control his knee from being exposed to the loads of bowling. As a result, he will be eligible for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The remaining two tests were deemed unsuitable.

“Shami will continue with targeted strength and conditioning training under the guidance of medical staff at BCCI’s Center of Excellence to build the bowling load required to meet the demands of the longest format of the game. .His participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy will depend on the progress of his knee. ”
