New confusion over Hima Das NADA doping ban, athlete refuses to comment

Asian Games gold medalist sprinter Hima Das was acquitted by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) of a “presence of place” violation, but in an unusual development, the agency handed her a retroactive suspension. The 16-month suspension runs from July 22, 2023 to November 21, 2024, and while the player is now free to participate in tournaments, what has caused the upset is that she It is said that he was also participating in the event. .

NADA recently announced that she was suspended by the Anti-Doping Committee for failing to provide her accommodation.

Known as “Ding Express,” she was suspended under a case settlement agreement, according to NADA’s website. She is currently training in Thiruvananthapuram.

Despite her suspension ending on November 21, 2024, the athlete has been competing since April this year and competed at the Indian Grand Prix in Bengaluru and the National Championships in Panchkula in June. The schedule of his suspension has caused confusion as he had also participated in inter-conference tournaments. .

The most interesting thing is that she ran four races in June.

Hima refused to comment on the issue when PTI contacted her after Wednesday’s training session. Athletics Federation of India (AFI) officials also confirmed that her suspension was lifted in November.

If both parties agree and the athlete agrees to accept the imposed consequences without further appeal, a “Case Settlement Agreement” will be entered into between the Anti-Doping Organization and the athlete.

The development comes weeks after Hima was acquitted by NADA’s Anti-Doping Appeals Panel (ADAP) of doping charges stemming from three disappearances within a 12-month period.

Officials did not provide details on how the committees (Anti-Doping Disciplinary Committee and Anti-Doping Appeals Committee) reached the conclusion that there was no “presence” error on her part.

Hima, 24, was provisionally suspended by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) last year for missing his whereabouts three times in a 12-month period. However, after a hearing in March, she was cleared by the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Committee (ADDP).

She made her comeback in the 200m at the Indian Grand Prix 1 in Bangalore on April 30th.

In a September 4 decision, the Anti-Doping Appeals Board upheld the disciplinary committee’s decision exonerating her of doping charges. PTI PDS Oh AT AT
