Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) set to part ways with captain KL Rahul ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction. The IPL Governing Council has set October 31 as the deadline for teams to submit a list of retained and released players from the current squad. According to a report in CreekbuzzRahul expressed his desire to leave MSU after his request to move to the middle order was rejected by the management due to composition and dynamics.
The report also suggests that LSG may pursue a Right to Match (RTM) card against the Australian all-rounder. Marcus Stoinis.
“Although LSG has the opportunity to take advantage of RTM on Rahul, the chances of this happening are low – almost zero. They can do this for a player like Marcus Stoinis,” the report said.
With Rahul set to be released, MSU is likely to retain people like Nicholas Pooran, Mayank Yadav, Ravi BishnoiMohsin Khan and Ayush Badoniwith the last two being deductions without limitation.
Ahead of the auction, Rahul was linked with several teams. However, if he ends up in the auction, RCB are likely to go all-in for their former player.
He played two seasons for RCB in 2013 and 2016 respectively before moving to Punjab in 2018.
Rahul’s strike frequency has always been a point of contention for the MSU. In fact, he has not scored more than 140 runs since the 2019 IPL season and has scored just 113 runs in 2023.
If Rahul and LSG decide to part ways, he will be one of the biggest Indian names to hit the auction block. Over the years, Rahul has made 4683 runs in the IPL at an average of 45 and a strike rate of 134.
Things are not going well for Rahul as he was dropped from India’s squad for the 2nd Test against New Zealand in Pune. However, he has been added to the squad for the upcoming Test tour of Australia.
