Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has clarified the situation. Jason Gillespieresignation from the post of head coach of the Test team. Former Australia international Gillespie stepped down from his position earlier this month after the PCB decided not to renew the contract of high-flying coach Tim Nielsen. Gillespie was also upset by the fact that the PCB also barred coaches from having a say in selection matters, a decision that led to the resignation of the white-ball coach. Gary Kirsten.

“Of course there were problems. I went into this with my eyes wide open, I want to make this clear. I knew that, you know, Pakistan had gone through a number of coaches in a fairly short period of time. The camel’s back, I believe, was that you, as a head coach, would want to have clear communication with your employer. I was completely blindsided by the decision not to have a top-quality coach,” Gillespie told ABC Sport after his speech. resignation.

With Pakistan set to take on South Africa in a two-match Test series starting Boxing Day, PCB chief Naqvi shared his views on Gillespie’s sudden exit.

“The role of the head coach is to coach the team and the selection committee is to select the players,” Naqvi told Geo News.

Both Gillespie and Kirsten were appointed on two-year contracts ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup, with the PCB promising a new era for the Pakistan team.

But one day Aaqib Javed was appointed as the chief selector and was given full powers by the PCB, including selecting the team, foreign coaches began to quarrel with the board of directors.

Javed has also been appointed as the team’s interim coach in all three formats.

Pakistan lost the T20I series to South Africa before turning the tide in the ODIs.
