But Mr Pant admitted that this was not the case.
In a video shared by Star Sports ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, Gavaskar stressed that sometimes top players decide to leave a franchise to understand their true value at the auction. Mr. Gavaskar suggested that Mr. Pant’s case was similar and predicted that the stamper would be the subject of auction in Delhi again.
“Delhi would definitely want to bring Rishabh Pant back into the team. If the player stays, there may be discussions between the player and the franchise regarding the expected compensation. As you can see, There may have been disagreements (about fees) among the players who remained with the team, and the franchise probably paid more than the No. 1 retainer.
“My feeling is that Delhi definitely wants Pant back because they also need a captain. If Rishabh Pant is not in the team, they will have to look for a new captain.” the Indian cricket legend said in a video.

Reacting to the video, Pant said his departure from the franchise was not about money.
In a reply to a post on X (formerly Twitter), Rishabh Pant said, “My reason for leaving, I can say with certainty, was not because of money.”
Pant is expected to acquire all 10 franchises after him. However, the franchise balance suggests that he is likely to join either Punjab Kings, Lucknow Super Giants or Royal Challengers Bangalore. Even a return to DC cannot be ruled out yet.
