On New Year’s Day, several reports surfaced claiming that there was discord in the Indian dressing room. This comes on the heels of India’s 184-run defeat to Australia in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Head coach Gautam Gambhir is believed to have said:a lot happened (I’ve had enough) in his locker room speech where the locker room environment is “less than ideal.” Reacting to such reports, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar said that all these stories are created by the media to interest fans and their users. He backed his opinion by saying that such stories only arise after India loses a match.
“Every time the Indian team loses, these things come up about differences and all that. It’s a common story. It’s as if we as people feel that the Indian team cannot lose. be for some reason other than cricket,” Gavaskar said. India today.
“I don’t think any of the players really think about what was written. They just want to focus on how to be better than they were in the previous test,” he added.
Amid rumors of unrest in the dressing room following the huge loss in the Boxing Day Test, Gambhir also clarified to the press that these were “just reports and not the truth”.
NDTV has learned through its sources that Rohit is likely to be “rested” for the fifth Test against Australia. Another thing that questioned Rohit’s selection for the game was Gambhir’s attendance at the press conference on the eve of the game. The team captain is usually present at the event.
Trying to find out the reason for this, Gavaskar said, “The captain approached the media just two days ago, so perhaps he felt that he did not need to approach the media again and the coach did not address the media at all. maybe the coach had to come in and say nothing like that happened, which again should tell you something about these reports.”
