Premier League underground club Southampton on Saturday appointed Ivan Djuric as their new manager on an 18-month contract. The former Roma and Torino manager will replace the sacked Russell Martin, leaving the south coast club bottom of the table and nine points safe heading into Sunday’s game against Fulham. Martin was sacked after last weekend’s 5-0 home defeat to Tottenham.
The Saints said Juric has a reputation for “helping teams punch above their weight.”
The 49-year-old said: “I’m very happy.” “I think this is a really big challenge, but I’m very optimistic because I’ve seen teams that can do better.
“It’s important to connect with the fans right away. I want an attacking team and I think the Southampton fans will like that.”
