Vidarbha dough Karun NairThe player’s stunning form in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) has sparked debate about his return to the Indian team. Nair has scored 112, 44, 163, 111, 112, 122 and 88 in seven innings so far and has been dismissed only once in the tournament. On the back of his brilliant form in the VHT, fans and pundits have vouched for his selection in the Indian team for the upcoming ODI series against England as well as the ICC Champions Trophy.
Former Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik also shared his views on Nair’s recent form. While Karthik acknowledged the batsman’s exploits, he however explained the reason why Nair will not be considered for selection just yet.
“Karun Nair, it was unreal to see the form you are in. Even Mayank Agarwal was in really good shape. But the beauty is that this comes at a stage where the Indian ODI set-up is almost ready to go. There can’t be too much change,” Karthik said in an interview. Creekbuzz.
Karthik, however, suggested that if Nair continues to score, it will only be a matter of time before he returns to the Indian team.
“Yes, it is very tempting to bring Karun Nair into the team and I think he has earned the right to participate in the negotiations. But I don’t think he will make it into the Champions Trophy 25. But if he continues like this, why not? Such a good player who plays fast and spins well, he has good weapon control and I am very happy for him,” he added.
Karthik also shared his views on the young batter. Yashasvi Jaiswalabsence of a player from the T20I squad against England.
He explained: “He (Jaiswal) was rested (for the England T20I). He had a very long tour of Australia, mentally draining for such a young kid. He needs a break. Plays a 5-match Test series. This is not a joke. I think they (selectors) did the right thing, he will feature in the ODIs against England and in the Champions Trophy. Don’t worry, he hits brilliantly. These five T20s will not mean anything to him.”
