Meanwhile, the Australian captain Pat Cummins said the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) pitch looked “nice and solid” with “a bit of grass” and that could help a player Nathan Lyon Also.

With the series score tied at 1-1, both sides will play in the much-anticipated Boxing Day Test with the aim of securing the all-important series lead needed to reach the final of the ICC World Test Championship.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference before the game, Cummins said of the pitch: “The pitch looks really good, pretty consistent with what it’s been here for the last few years. I think, you know, a little bit of grass, it feels nice and firm, so they (the curators) have done a great job here, you know, probably over the last five or six years, their presentations, and I suspect it’s the same this year the most.”

The captain also admitted that bowling in extreme heat, with temperatures reaching 39 degrees, can be “hot”.

Speaking further about the wicket, Cummins called it “well balanced”.

“Nathan Lyon has had some success here and is certainly playing his part, so yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some breaks in the game,” he concluded.
