West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph was suspended for two matches on Thursday after leaving the field during the crucial ODI win over England. Cricket West Indies (CWI) said Joseph was sanctioned for “conduct not consistent with CWI standards of professionalism”. Joseph walked off the field during Wednesday’s game at Kensington Oval in Barbados shortly after taking his wicket Jordan Cox in the fourth over, in apparent protest against the pitch set by the West Indies captain. This left West Indies briefly down to 10 players before Joseph returned for the sixth over.
“Alzarri’s conduct was not consistent with the core values that West Indies cricket stands for,” CWI’s director of cricket said. Miles Bascombe the statement says.
“This type of behavior cannot be ignored and we have taken decisive action to ensure the seriousness of the situation is fully recognised.”
In the same statement, Joseph apologized, saying “my passion got the better of me.”
“I have personally apologized to captain Shai Hope, my teammates and management,” Joseph, 27, said.
“I also sincerely apologize to the West Indies fans. “I understand that even a brief error in judgment can have far-reaching consequences, and I deeply regret any disappointment caused.”
